Youth electrocuted, infant found hacked to death

Imphal, April 06 2013 :
A 19-year old youth died of electrocution at Yairipok Top Chingtha while the dead body of an infant of about 15 days old was found with multiple sword injuries at Ngairangbam Heibirok Loukon today.
The deceased youth who died of electrocution was identified as Yumnam Nongyai s/o Y Ingocha of Yairipok Top Chingtha.
He was helping a woman in picking up her bucket which felt down into a Water Reservoir, with the help of a bamboo pole when he accidentally touched a low hanging High Tension (HT) Power Transmission Cable above and died instantly.
The incident occurred at around 9.45 am today.
Speaking about the incident, MLA, Andro Kendra, Th Shyamkumar said that Nongyai was the sixth person who became a victim of low hanging HT Power Transmission Cable in Andro Kendra.
Executive Engineer of Thoubal Division Joychandra of Uripok had been approached numerous times to check the low hanging HT Power Cables and replaced the broken posts.
However, no response has ever received from the electricity department, he lamented Meanwhile, dead body of an infant was found at Ngairangbam Heibirok Loukon around 9.30 am today.
The infant appears to be around 15 days old.
There were five to six marks of sword injuries on the head, face and thighs areas of the infant.
The baby had six fingers and six toes on its hands and feet.
Locals of Ngairangbam and surrounding area have strongly condemned the act of killing the infant and demanded the government to find out the culprit for awarding necessary punishment.
