Imphal, May 19 2010:
As many as 40 passengers including women and children were injured today when a passenger bus they were travelling meet with an accident apparently trying to avoid hitting a cow on the road at Lilong Kalikhong on the Indo-Burma-Sugnu road under Lilong police station.
The passenger bus bearing registration no.MN-05-0462 "Taibang Mapu" heading Imphal with passengers from Sugnu met with the accident at about 2 pm.
The bus fell down into the roadside canal while trying to avoid hitting the cow moving on the road, reports said.
Around 70 passengers were on board the bus.
Out of them around 40 of them sustained injuries, with four of them seriously while the rest escaped unhurt.
Out of the 40 injured passengers 15 were women.
Injured passengers were evacuated to RIMS and JN Hospital where they attended medical treatments while seriously injured ones have been referred to Shija Hospital, the report added.
