Plight of the street vendors was discussed in a discussion session organized by the Women Street Vendors Association under the sponsorship of the Ema Leibak Thougal Lup, Khwai Ema Keithel.
The meet resolved to press the state government for providing a separate permanent appropriate place for the street vendors considering the problems confronting by them among other.
Plight of around 415 vendors on the streets on the western stretch of the Maharani Bridge upto Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak and around 90 vendors at Punshi Keithel was prominently discussed in the meet.
They resolved to accommodate them at the temporary market set at the erstwhile District Hospital complex after presently occupied vendors are shifted to the three newly construct multi-storey market complexes, nearly completion now.
Taking part in the discussion, L Phajabi observed the need of arranging an appropriate place for the street vendors by the government and urged the vendors to stand united in pressing the government to translate into works the demand.
Government should arrange a proper place for the street vendors.
Vendors with license holders should also co-operate to their demand.
Streets vendors are not from well to do families.
They are struggling whole day in hot summer and rains in earning their livelihood, she observed.
Speaking on the prevailing conflicting situation in the state, she blamed the Central government for granting permission to Muivah to visit the state despite the fact that Manipur is an insurgency
affected state.
The decision of the Centre will encourage the youths to join in the separatists movement, he observed.
