Imphal, December 27 2011:
Plot as well as building of Naorem Leikai High School have been sold off to private individuals by teachers of the school.
Meanwhile, the Kanglei Yaipha Lamjing Lup, Nameirakpam Leikai has strongly condemned the scandalous and fraudulent act of selling off the school's plot and building.
Speaking to media persons at Naorem Leikai Boys Primary School ground today, spokesman of Kanglei Yaipha Lamjing Lup Oinam Loken said that Naorem Leikai Girls High School was established in 1980 with greats efforts of the local people in view of the absence of a single girls' High School between Singjamei and Lilong then.
However, the school was made a co-educational one and it was administered by a school managing committee whose functionaries are elected every three years.
Earlier, Naorem Girls High School was attached to Naorem Leikai Girls Primary School.
It was only in 2004, the school management committee managed to buy land of point 16 and then High School was shifted to the new premises as a separate and independent school.
With the Government refusing to take over the school while the number of students was diminishing, the school management committee could not longer run the school.
Taking advantage of the situation, Naorem Leikai High School Charitable Trust comprising of four former teachers of the school was set up on September 5, 2011 with the objectives of ensuring proper education to children, imparting computer education and establishment of hostels for boys and girls, Loken said.
President of the trust is former Headmistress Nongmaithem Promodini and its secretary is former Headmaster Koijam Ramananda.
Promodini sold off the school's plot and building to Ramananda at Rs 40,000 .
The secretary, in turn, was trying to sell the same plot and building to one O Rabi of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai.
It was at this point of time, local people came to know about the scandalous dealings.
Taking strong exception to the fraudulent dealing, the Kanglei Yaipha Lamjing Lup went to the Sub-Registrar Office, Porompat on December 5 and 16, and raised strong objections.
A joint meeting of Naorem Leikai and Nameirakpam Leikai was also held where the treacherous and fraudulent act of selling off the school's plot and building was condemned in the strongest term, Loken said.
