Imphal, March 26, 2013:
Pointing out that self-styled Sergeant Major Ningthoujam Leirenjao Singh alias Thouba s/o (L) N Ahongjao Singh of Singda Kadangban Part I was apprehended by troops of Red Shield Division on the intervening night of March 23-2, a PIB (DW) statement claimed that the individual has revealed important information on UG activity in the area of Imphal West.
Conveying that Leirenjao's arrest also led to recovery of a 7.65 mm pistol and a .22 pistol with four rounds of AK ammunition, the statement dismissed the allegation by Ningthoujam Ongbi Mani, wife of the arrested PLA cadre, that she was hit by a butt of a weapon as concocted and malicious.
No such incident took place during arrest of her husband and the allegation is aimed at diverting attention from the wrong doings of her husband, the statement asserted and maintained that the local population has always stood by the security forces in their fight against terror.
Such baseless allegations will have no impact on the resolve of the security forces to act against the outlawed organisations, it said.
