Literary award for Borkeinya

Noted Manipuri writer Moirangthem Borkeinya has been honoured with the 3rd State Award for Literature, 2010 for her 'Yenningtha Nangna Khongdoi Hullakpasida' , a book of poems, during an impressive function held at Kangla Hall here today.
The prestigious award has been presented to Borkeinya in recognition of her contribution to the literary treasure strove of Manipur.
Instituted by the Govt of Manipur to encourage Manipuri writers, the first State Award for Literature was presented to BS Maisnam in 2008 and the second award to Thangjam Ibopishak.
Borkeinya is the third recipient of the award and the first among the few women writers in the State.
The award consists of a memento, a shawl and a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh.
Born on February 1, 1958 at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai, Borkeinya is the daughter of Moirangthem Chandrahas and Moirangthem Ongbi Ibemhal.
Though she has keen interest in study and literary works since childhood, Borkeinya went on to pursue nursing study and passed out with flying colour from School of Nursing, Assam under Assam Nursing Council in 1982.Currently, she is working in the TB Hospital at Chingmeirong, Lei-Ingkhol.
In June 1991, she entered into wedlock with Konsam Kulladhwaja of Tera Khuraijam Leirak.
Some of the published literary works of Borkeinya include Humphutarada Humlakpa Nonglei (inclusion in anthology of poems), Singjareigee Leikada (novel), Loinaidraba Thawaigee Eshei (poems), Utol Amadi Ucheksing (poems), Sangbannaba Atiyagee Epakta (poems), Meiri (novel), Leikangla (novel), Ningtambagee Mamal ( short stories), Yenningtha Nangna Khongdoi Hullakpasida (poems), Nakenthagee Yenning (novel), etc.
Earlier, Borkeinya has been decorated with other literary awards like Khaidem Pramodini Gold Medal, Manipur State Kala Akademi award, Telem Abir Cash Award, etc.
Today's award presentation ceremony was attended by Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat as chief guest, Sahitya Akademi awardee Elangbam Sonamani Singh as guest of honour and Minister of Health and Family Welfare L Jayantakumar Singh as functional president.
The function was organised under the aegis of Department of Education (S), Govt of Manipur.
