Imphal, January 21, 2012:
The CorCom together with Hyn-newtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and the United Liberation of Asom have called for a mass boycott of the Republic Day celebration on January 26 this year as a mark of resistance against alleged 'Indian occupation of the region'.
Remarking that the Republic Day celebration serves to legitimize alien occupation of the region, the militant outfits asserted that peoples of North East region are not Indians, and stated that there is no reason to take part in this celebration.
"We have every right and reason to fight against and overthrow Indian colonial regime to regain our lost sovereignty and independence", said a press release issued by CorCom's media coordinator H Poirei today evening.
To make this resistance meaningful and convey a resolute message to the Indian establishment that their hegemony over the region are not being tolerated and would not go unchallenged, the outfits appealed to the peoples to observe a general shut-down on January 26 from 1 am to 5.30 pm.
"During these hours, all trade and commercial activities, all forms of public entertainment and all kinds of public and private transportations must not operate in our region," said the statement.
However, emergency measures, essential services, media and religious activities would be exempted from its purview, it added.
