Workshop on enterprise development inaugurated

Imphal, April 19 2012:
A four-day workshop on enterprise development in Manipur: prospects and problems organised by Manipur Chamber of Foreign Trade and Industry (MACFI) in association with Indian Chamber of Commerce was kick-started today at the Conference Hall of Hotel Imphal.
The inaugural function of the workshop was graced by O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industry); Y Ratankumar, Vice-President of MACFI; Dr N Mohendro, former member, Steering Committee, NER Vision 2020; and Prof Amar Yumnam, Dean, School of Social Science, MU as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr N Mohendro said the irregular power supply in the State, despite its available resource, is not only causing problems to enterpreneurs but also responsible for the retardation of economic growth of the State.
Prof Amar Yumnam observed that instead of promoting enterpreneurs of the State, more efforts have been put to dispirit them.
He said it is not a good sign for all.
Stating the promoting enterpreneurs for economic development is the need of the hour, Prof Amar urged all concerned including the Government to extend enough amount of cooperation.
During the technical session, Vice-President of ICSI and Industrial Adviser of MACFI, P Loken spoke on enterpreneurship and characteristics of Enterpreneur while Prof E Bijoykumar of MU's Economic department spoke on Enterpise Development in Manipur: A resource/demand based approach.
On the second day tomorrow, Th Joykumar, Proprietor, Thangjam Agro Industry and Sorojini Devi, Proprietor, KETAWN will present a paper on problems faced by local enterpreneurs, real and perspective in setting up as well as expanding enterprise in Manipur.
Th Baite, Deputy Director MSME, Takyel; and A Kritikumar Sharma, Assistant Manager, SSI, Directorate of Commerce and Industry will present papers.
Prof Amar Yumnam will moderate the brainstorming session.
Day three of the workshop will mark presentations by Y Ragumani, Project Manager, DIC IW; Manager of PNB; Ibetombi Devi, DO, NSIC State Office.
Dr Somorendro, Principal, ICM and Prof KK Sarkar, Secretary General, ICSI, Kolkata will speak on the last day of the workshop while Dr RK Ranjan, President of MACFI will moderate the discussion session.
