Meet stresses on trade prospects with Myanmar

Imphal, April 19 2012:
A 4-day workshop on Enterprise Development kicked off today at the conference hall of Hotel Imphal with O Nabakishore, Principle Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Manipur as Chief Guest.
The workshop is being jointly organized by Manipur Chamber of Foreign Trade and Industries and the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking on the occasion, O Nabakishore observed that a lot of changes have taken place in Myanmar and considering its proximity with the state, there arise the need to study the bilateral trade relation between Myanmar and Manipur.
As such a delegation from Imphal would be leaving for Myanmar by May next.
The team would meet the trade officials of Myanmar and discuss the possibilities and prospects of trade between Myanmar and Manipur.

Nabakishore said that Myanmar is a country with rich natural resources.
It produces large quantity of peas and so we need to have good trade relations with the country.
We also need to make Imphal an important trade centre.
We need to export our products which are in great demand outside.
We also need to discuss how to develop the industries in the state.
Prof Mohendro, ex-member, Steering Committee, North East Region, Vision 2020, who was also present on the occasion as Guest of Honour, noted that employment and industrial growth have close relations.
To establish an industry; infrastructure, incentives, investments, initiative and institution are required.
Above all these, power is also very important for the development of an industry.
However, in Manipur, power shortage is a huge problem.
Prof Amar Yumnam, School of Social Sciences, MU, said that the South East Asian countries are growing fast in industrial sector.
We need to take part in the globalization process being witnessed in this world today.
Presided over by Y Ratan Kumar, Vice President of Manipur Chamber of Foreign Trade and Industries, the inaugural function of the workshop was also attended by Ishantor Sobhabandit, Regional Director of Indian Chamber of Commerce as Guest of Honour.
