Imphal, April 19 2012:
Terming the mess system in their hostel as 'disastrous', the students of Manipur University staying in Koubru Hostel (Hostel number II) have complained that the foods provided to them are unhygienic and not fit to be consumed.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, the hostellers said that the foods provided in the hostel are far from being hygienic.
The rice and curry provided by MU authority are filled with insects and threads.
This has been happening for a quite a long time.
The hostellers informed that they have already complaint to the hostel warden with the request for taking up the matter with the University authority.
But still today nothing has been done and they are provided with the same foods as usual.
The agitated students further complained that the cooks of the hostel always use plastic bags for boiling dry fish inside the rice pot.
They have advised the cooks to stop using plastics as it is very harmful to the human body and can even cause cancer.
However, the cooks have not listened.
The aggrieved hostellers have demanded transfer of the two cooks from their hostel and warned of closing down the kitchen as well as locking up the room of the warden if the demand is not met with a week's time.
It is said that with except to the two square meals a day they received, breakfast is not provided to the hostellers.
Moreover, in addition to the problem of unhygienic foods provided to them, the hostellers are also facing other difficulties like unfinished repairing works of the hostel.
