Importance of medicinal and aromatic plants higlighted

Imphal, December 17 2021: A one day training for farmers on 'Cultivation, conservation and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants' was held today at the women's hall of Rikhumai Taphou Baptist Church in Senapati.

Speaking at the training programme, AYUSH director A Guneshwor Sharma said Manipur is endowed with rich flora, with a number of them having medicinal and aromatic values.

However, lack of knowledge about such varieties and illegal export has endangered such valuable species.

The programme was being organised in order to make the farmers aware about the values of such valuable species and to prevent illegal export.

He also assured that the Manipur Medicinal Plants Board will extend all possible help to the farmers of Senapati district in setting up marketing linkage and other assistance needed for plantation and sales of such varieties.

The programme jointly organised by Directorate of AYUSH, State Medicinal Plants Board and Association for Welfare and Rural Development, Senapati under the aegis of National Medicinal Plants Board was also attended by Dr P Kumar, former professor Life Sciences MU; Assistant Professors of CAU Dr Ng Pilu, PS Mariam, Dr S Romen and Mission Director of Manipur Horticulture Mission, K Jogeshchandra as presidium members.
