Imphal, August 17 2011:
Women vendors of Kwakeithel, students and teachers of Kwakeithel Girls' High School and people residing around Kwakeithel today staged a sit in protest against the general strike of SHDDC on the NH 39 at Kwakeithel market sheds.
The protest was organized by the Keishamthong Humanitarian Development Committee (KHDC) .
Protestors held placards which inscribed "Let's not introduce Blockade culture to our future generation", "Lift Blockades on the lifelines immediately", "Find alternative means to fulfill your demands other than blockade", "Let's live peacefully", "Don't obstruct lifelines of Manipur", "Let's live in peace and harmony", "Choose alternate means" etc during the demonstration.
One woman protestor told Hueiyen Lanpao that the entire public of Manipur is suffering because of the ongoing general strike as some selfish businessmen increase the rates of all commodities.
As a result of these, poor and common people are suffering a lot of hardships.
She questioned the reason why the government of Manipur is so helpless or the inability to solve the problem for the sake of the people.
People of the state have bore the unwanted effects of such general strike too long.
But it has exceeded all limitations.
In such situation, the government should solve the problem immediately.
