Recovered IED safely exploded

Imphal, August 17 2011:
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing about 2.5 kg was found planted at Chajing near Lilong bridge on the Imphal-Moreh route today morning.
Along with timely detection, bomb experts of State Police Department removed the IED, thus averting possible major tragedy.
Information received from the police said the IED was meant to target the convoy of Chief Minister and VIPs who were supposed to pass that side and Jammer have been fitted.
While the IED was being removed by the bomb experts, the road was kept sealed for sometime so as to avoid any human casualty.
Meanwhile, police retrieved another bomb which was found lobbed inside the gate of one Mongjam Poireilemba of Yourbung Mamang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station today.

On the other hand, unidentified armed persons exploded a hand grenade near the house of one Meisnam Shamu of Naranseina under Moirang Police Station at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
No one was hurt in the explosion.
Decrying the hand grenade explosion, people of Naranseina and its surrounding area today staged a protest demonstration demanding to know the identity of the attackers and the reason behind it.
