Poll preparation gears up in hills

With the Manipur legislative assembly elections only months away, poll related programmes have begun in the hill districts of Manipur with feasting and other social events.
In one of such events, over 6000 people had attended a programme christened as,"Worship programme cum political consultative meeting of Samuel Jendai in Tamenglong district headquarters on Monday, according to sources from Tamenglong.
Speaking on the occasion, former cabinet minister from Tamenglong district headquarters Samuel Jendai underlined four broad-points as his theme agenda in fighting the forthcoming assembly election.
Curbing of corruption; to build up agro-base economy through social and religion interaction; to defend the ancestral land of the Zeliangrongs ; and to give job opportunity to educated youth.
The programme of Samuel Jendai was seen as a kind of strenght-show of his supporters to the rivals.
However, it was not clear on which party ticket Samuel Jendai is contesting this time round.
Meanwhile, sources from Tamenglong said in the coming days other intending candidates of the Tamenglong assembly constituency may follow suit in the 'strength-show' .
At the moment, there are at least four intending candidates from the constituency.
