Imphal, May 17 2015 :
The Manipuri Students' Association, Delhi (MSAD) has strongly condemned the abduction and cold blooded extrajudicial murder and burial of two construction workers and torture of a student by cadres of the Kuki Revolutionary Front on May 12.MSAD condemned KRF for targeting people on the ground of suspicion, kidnapping unarmed civilians and forcing them to confess at gun point to cover up their crime and the 'custodial' murder.
In a statement issued by its president, Priyobata Irengbam, MSAD also condemned the Government of India and the Government of Manipur as instances of armed outfits either under ceasefire or SoO targeting civilians have occurred frequently.
Although the police was tactically responding this time, with immediate arrest of eight cadres of the KRF, MSAD expressed suspicion about the strategic intention of the Government, as KRF is one of those armed organisations that have been operating like a mercenary force, enjoying protection in the Government designated camp with regular monetary allowances.
"While we are against communal interpretation of the incident; we condemn the burning of Church, destruction of private properties and targeting of civilians during the protest against the crime perpetrated by KRF," it said.
Besides killing one person, few others were injured by the bandh supporters on May 14, it said.
There was also reported targeting and harassment towards Zeliangrong people coming from Tamenglong towards Keithelmanbi and Moidangpok.
All these shifted away the target of protest, divert the course of the struggle for justice; it can have communal repercussion and will be counter-productive in the long run, it said.
It also appreciated the progressive roles of the civil society organisations, individuals and media in the ongoing demand for justice and in toning down the elements of communal sentiments.
