Imphal, April 28 2013:
Decrying continued inaction of the Government of Manipur over the Alice Kamei case, a 14-year old tribal school girl who is reportedly in the hands of Revolutionary Peoples Front/Peoples Liberation Army(RPF/PLA) since 10th March, 2013, UNC has alleged that in blatant collusion with the UG group, the Government of Manipur has gone to the extent of absolving itself of its responsibilities of securing the release and safety of the girl child.
By doing so, the Government of Manipur has accepted the captivity of Ms.Alice by RPF/PLA as a normal thing.
Instead of upholding the Constitution, the Government of Manipur has heaped the responsibility upon the volition of the underaged girl.
It is clear that the GoM does not function under the Constitution or any rule of law, Publicity Wing of UNC said in a statement, while seeking the intervention of the Government of India into the matter.
UNC has also appealed to Zeliangrong Youth Front(AMN), All Zeliangrong Students' Union(AMN) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur to review their decision on the indefinite bandh in view of the hardship faced by the general public and in anticipation of the intervention of the GoI in the matter.
