A team of CBI New Delhi, along with Assistant Professors of Manipur University, carried out a scrutiny of the answer scripts of Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination 2016, at the office of Manipur Public Service Commission today.
According to a reliable source, the scrutiny was carried out as a part of the CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities committed in the process of conducting the Civil Services Examination (Mains) 2016 by MPSC.
The scrutiny began from 10 am today and continued till the filing of this report.
CBI had registered an FIR in the early part of February to probe the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination.
The move came following the direction of the High Court of Manipur which quashed the examination results in October last year.
In November, the order was upheld by the Supreme Court, which instructed the CBI to conduct a time-bound investigation.
In its order, the High Court of Manipur had noted that out of 8,163 answer sheets, the examiners did not put their signatures in respect of seven papers or subjects, while in 15 papers, the supervisors did not put their signatures.
Mention may be made that the Division Bench of the High Court, comprising Justice Lunusungkum Jamir and Justice Kh Nobin had also set aside the orders issued by the Department of Personnel, Deputy Secretary on June 22, 2017 and June 26, 2017 as well as the order issued by the Deputy Secretary (Revenue) on June 23, 2017 .
In the order, the Court had also directed the CBI to investigate the case within a period of three months.
