An extensive poppy plantation found in Sajik Tampak has been destroyed by a combined team of NAB, NCB Imphal, 35th Assam Rifles and Chandel District Police.
Under the instruction of NAB SP Isak Shah, a combined team of NAB, NCB, troops of 35 AR and Chandel District police personnel led by NAB OC RK Bikramjit destroyed the poppy plantation between February 21 and 24 .
A press release issued by the NAB SP claimed that poppy plants cultivated in 38 acres around Phaise village within Sajik Tampak area and another 11 acres of poppy plantation around Hengmol village have been destroyed by the combined team.
The areas where poppy plants were found cultivated included foothills, hill slopes and river beds.
The SP estimated that the total number of poppy plants destroyed would be around 49,91,875 .

The monetary value of the yield expected from each acre of poppy plantation is around Rs 10 lakhs.
In total, poppy plantations which would yield poppy worth Rs 1.96 crore in illicit market have been destroyed, claimed the SP.
Though no one was found at the poppy plantation sites, an FIR has been registered to investigate and find out the poppy cultivators, added the press release.
