For construction of 360 roads in Manipur PMGSY Phase IX, Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has given his approval to release necessary fund.
An official source informed that Jairam Ramesh gave his assurance to release the necessary fund during a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi and Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa at about 10 am today.
Detailed project report for the 360 roads was prepared by the Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency (MSRRDA) without hiring any firm.
Estimated cost of these 360 roads which would cover a total distance of 2348 Kms is Rs 1242 crores, informed the official.
Of the proposed 360 roads, 120 would be upgraded while 240 roads would be constructed anew.
Once the Centre sanctions the necessary fund, e-tender for the road construction works would be conducted, and according to the guidelines all the road construction works should be completed within 18 months.
If any of these roads include bridge(s), they should be completed within 24 months.
The Centre would monitor road development works taken under PMGSY through satellite imaging using mobile phones, added the source.
