Following the announcement of indefinite bandh on the stretch of the NH-53 at Patsoi area in Imphal west district, the magistrate of the district today promulgated prohibitory order banning assembly of five or more persons which are likely to turn unlawful in the area on the stretch of the highway within the jurisdiction of Patsoi police station.
Mention may be made that a part of opposition to the proposed expansion of the existing 132 KV power sub-station at Yurembam under Patsoi Police Station, the Yurembam-Patsoi-Tabungkhok Land Protection Demand Committee announced that they would impose indefinite bandh on the stretch of the highway effective from midnight of today (March 25) .
A press statement of the committee issued yesterday stated that the bandh will continue till government review the decision to take over more land from the surrounding of the sub-station.
Imphal west district magistrate, K Radhakumar issued the prohibitory order based on the media report considering the likelihood of causing serious breach of peace, disturbances to public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties in the area.
The order issued under sub-section 2 of the Section 144 CrPC prohibited assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful in the area on the stretch of the NH-53 within the jurisdiction of the Patsoi police station.
The order will be effective until the magistrate issued further order.
