Imphal, November 24 2012:
MLA MK Preshow together with high ranking district level officers today inspected medial and educational institutions as well as other shortages in Ukhrul district headquarters.
Before the inspection tour, the MLA held a meeting with Ukhrul DC and other DLOs at Ukhrul mini secretariat.
The meeting deliberated on the existing condition of medical and educational institutions of Ukhrul district headquarters.
At Ukhrul district hospital, the MLA and his team found the X-ray machine lying idle because there was no separate power line for the hospital.
The team also witnessed absence of specialist doctors, shortage of staff nurses as well as equipment.
The MLA then went to Pettigrew College, the lone Government college of Ukhrul district.
There too, the Chingai AC MLA came across inconveniences and difficulties endured by students due to shortage of teaching staff.
Strangely, there is not a single regular lecturer at the college.
Guest lecturers and part-time lecturers have been running the college.
Signs of intrusion by encroachers were also observed in the absence of proper compound fencing.
Absence of study materials and shortage of teaching staff were found impairing ITI Ukhrul though it has healthy strength of students.
The MLA was peeved on observing lack of progress in the development works of Paksi ground and Long ground.
Later, speaking to media persons, MLA Preshow lamented that Ukhrul district, in addition to being the biggest district, has degenerated into one of the most backward districts of the State.
He pledged to highlight the shortages and shortfalls witnessed in Ukhrul district headquarters to relevant Minister for taking up remedial measures at the earliest.
