Large swathes of poppy cultivation destroyed

Imphal, December 21 2020:
A combined team of security force and officials of the State Government destroyed about 55 acres and another 15 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at the hill range of Changshang area and Kongba Mara under Sagolmang Police Station respectively on December 18 .
The drive was jointly conducted by NAB, district police Imphal East, 1st MR Bn, Horticulture Department, Home Guards, NCB, Revenue officials, and Forest Department under the leadership of SP/NAB Watham Basu and SP Imphal East H Jogesh-chandra.
FIRs have been registered at NAB Police Station.
In the ongoing poppy destruction drive which started on November 20, about 1184 acres of illicit poppy cultivation have been destroyed, said police.
Carrying on the same drive, a combined team of Senapati district police personnel, NAB and District Forest officials under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Senapati district, destroyed about 55 acres of illicit poppy plantations along the Maram Raipaikilung hill range in Senapati district.
The combined team was led by ML Kaisungbou, MPS, Additional SP, Senapati (NH-2) .
The team also included P Longpinao, MPS, SDPO, Mao; Inspector Jonah R Chawang, Officer in-charge, Mao Police Station and Kamei Aguichui, SDC, Willong.
The team reportedly destroyed about 55 acres of illicit poppy plantations along the Maram Raipaikilung hill range during the drive.
The drive against poppy plantations is part of the ongoing War on Drugs campaign launched by the State Government.
