Yester-year singing sensation Laishram Birendrakumar has been honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust set up in memory of the late Nongmaithem Pahari, noted Manipuri singer who has been given the title of Melody King for his soul stirring songs on the occasion of his first death anniversary function held at Kangla Hall here today.
Young singer and actor Hamom Sadananda was also honoured with the Professional Excellence Award at the occasion.
The Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Birendrakumar carries a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with memento and citation while the Professional Excellence Award presented to Sadananda comprised of Rs 25,000 in cash along with memento and citation.
Noted Manipuri film maker Aribam Syam Sharma and president of the Trust B Jayentakumar attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
While accepting the award, Birendrakumar described Pahari as a singer par excellence who was imbued with many qualities.
He also appreciated the efforts being made by the Trust to encourage and promote Manipuri singers.
Prizes of the Ist Pahari Memorial Singing Competition organised by the Trust at MDU Hall earlier in connection with the observance of the death anniversary were also presented during the function today.
L Swarolata Devi of Thanga Khunjeng Leikai, RK Satyaditya of Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak and M Bidyarani Devi of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai who secured first, second and third position of the competition were respectively presented with Rs 20,000 , Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 as prizes along with one memento and certificate of excellence each.
Besides, certificates and cash prizes of Rs 500 each were also presented to six other competitors at the occasion.
The six competitors are S Iraileima Chanu, Umarjit Pangabam, P Tingku Devi, Th Naokhomba Meitei, RK Kavita Devi, Th Linda Devi and Th Dolma Devi.
