Imphal, October 18:
The proscribed outfit Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) has banned holding of Miss Kut contest and other night programmes as part of celebrating the traditional Kut festival.
In a statement, information and publicity secretary of the outfit Armstrong Gangte said reviving the age-old ties through cultural activities would surely go a long way than misusing the Kut by holding Miss contest and other uncouth extravaganza.
Sadly, more importance is being given to such extravaganza thus neglecting the very essence of celebrating Kut festival.
So, KNO/KLA has decided to impose ban on conducting Miss Kut contest and other night programmes on Kut day to be held at Ist Bn MR parade ground on November 1 this year, the statement said, while explaining that Kut as it signifies is a time to rekindle the cultural ties that bonded the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi community and holding Miss contest and other no-cultural extravaganza is not the theme of the celebration.
