Troops of 29 Assam Rifles manning Tengnoupal check post apprehended six persons yesterday while they were heading towards Imphal in a Tata Sumo (MN01/K4518) along with two other female passengers.
identifying the apprehended individuals as Premkumar Singh (26) of Thoubal, Jemsen Singh 9250 of Moreh Ward No 7, Amarjeet Singh (24) of Imphal, Somarjeet Singh (25) of Imphal, Bipin Singh (25) of Imphal and Sushil Kumar (23) of Singjamei, a PRO IGAR (S) release maintained that interrogation of the six led to the revelation that two are UNLF recruits.
Despite suspicion owing to incoherent statements the lady passengers were let off as there was no mahila Police to deal with the situation, the PRO said while adding that the apprehendees are being handed over to Tengnoupal police station.
In another incident, troops of the same unit recovered a packet containing 10-15 brown sugar from a maruti Van (MN01K/4278) from the said check-post.
In addition to the driver, four other passengers were travelling in the vehicle and one of the passenger was in possession of a laptop, the PRO release maintained while adding that on being asked, the passenger could not open the laptop as was password protected and claimed to belong to his sister.
Three remaining passengers claimed to be from Mumbai and were at Moreh in connection with business but were not carrying inner line permit, the PRO added while identifying the trio as Roshan Verma (19) of Moreh, Shyamlal Kumar Nabik (21) of Moreh Ward No 3, Devender Shethy (35) of Kandavali (Mumbai) and Samchand Deepchand Turakia (68) of Borivalli (Mumbai).
The individuals along with the seized drug packets and laptop have been handed over to police and NCB at Imphal, the PRO said.
