Ukrul, September 11:
Terming the attitude of work Minister as an attempt to feign the people, Yang Raphei Conference and JAC comprising fifteen villages headmen in Chingai sub division of Ukhrul district have urged to launch intense agitation if the Government fails to speed up the process of awarding work order in constructing Raphei road which is a lifeline for the villagers in the entire northern part of the district.
Detailing the road construction work in a joint communique, the two bodies said, construction of road that passes through villages such as Nunghar, Kharasom, Poi, Chingai, was granted under the Centre Road Fund (CRF) in 2005 with the cost of Rs 3.47 crores while another road construction at a stretch of 16 kms along NH 150 was granted under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) for 2007 to 2008. Despite visiting the construction site several times by the concerned Minister along with commissioner, chief engineer of PWD, there has not been any progress in the construction work, the committee said, adding several works including earthwork, singling, ring/slab curvert still remain incomplete.
In view of monsoon season that was in full swing last year, the Minister had ordered to cease the construction work for two months and assured the villagers who are affected by the pathetic road condition in the area that the work will be completed by February 2008, it alleged.
Setting September 8, 2008 as deadline to resume the work, the JAC has urged the concerned authority to award the work order to competent contractor, failing which it will not restrain itself from executing any intense form of agitation, and for any untoward incident the State Government will be responsible, it further urged.
