Imphal, June 07 2011:
Demanding punishment of all those involved in the murder of Rajeshwari according to law, a protest demonstration was staged today at Seijang community hall followed by a public meeting on the same issue.
The protesters put up placards which read as "Book the real killers", "We don't accept the charges levelled against Rajeshwari's husband", "Lamlai PS OC should resign for failing to book the real culprits" etc.
Rajeshwari's mother-in-law Kumari who was among the protesters asked how could Ibomcha murder his own wife after returning back from days of driving and having dinner together on the fateful night.
Moirangthem (O) Rajeshwari of Seijang Awang Leikai was found murdered in the night of June 2 at her own house.
Even as Ibomcha had reportedly confessed to Lamlai Police that he killed Rajeshwari, local people of Seijang have been strongly contending that it was not Ibomcha who killed Rajeshwari.
They have been contending that it was Rajeshwari's younger brother Milan who killed her in his greed for the plot of land occupied by his sister.
They staged the protest demonstration today alleging that police have been condoning Milan.
Speaking at the public meeting, secretary of the Women Action for Development Sobita Mangshatabam said that the public should identify the real culprits and punish them accordingly otherwise there may many similar killings in future.
The villagers further asked why Milan was being kept in police custody if Ibomcha killed Rajeshwari.
They also questioned the whereabouts of Rajeshwari and Ibomcha's 12 year old son.
