Ground work for action plan starts Assembly polls likely in Feb

With the next State Legislative Assembly elections expected to be held in February next year, the State Chief Election Officer has started preparing an action plan for the Assembly polls at the instruction of the Election Commission of India.
Polling for the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held together with Goa, Punjab, UP, Uttarakhand and Gurjarat.
Preparation of the action plan was started with reference to the previous elections at the instruction of the Election Commission of India so as to ensure that the Assembly polls can be conducted smoothly and peacefully, informed an official source.
In connection with the next Assembly election, a conference of the CEOs concerned would be held at Uttarakhand on June 9 and 10 .

This would be followed by a regional consultative meeting on electoral reforms at Guwahati on June 12 .
The meeting will be attended by Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily besides Chief Ministers, AGs, representatives of National and regional political parties, eminent persons and NGOs.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer has intimated the Election Commission to appoint necessary staff of the State Election Department, prevent interference by UG groups and also carry out prevention arrest ahead of the Assembly polls, conveyed the official source.
