Imphal, August 26 2013:
Under the joint aegis of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup and Thangmeiband Improvement Club, a day-long awareness programme on the impact of drugs on the society and the role that the public can play in preventing drug abuse was held at Heikham Kala Community Hall at Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai yesterday.
The programme was attended by Ng Tejkumar, Director Prosecution, Government of Manipur and President of Thangmeiband Improvement Club; Ninghtoujam Doren, President (in-charge) of CADA and L Gyaneshwari, President of Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion as one of the resource persons, Dr Chongtham Narendra, Reader, LMS Law College, stated that sale of all forms of tobacco products and alcohol has been banned in the State.
There is also ban imposed on smoking in public places.
But these bans are not being implemented strictly.
So, we need to organize such awareness programmes in different parts of the State.
Thingom Mangi, Advisor of CADA, observed that use of drugs and alcohol by the youths in the society can be reduced to a certain level if only the parents play a pro-active role in this regard.
A person who has the love for his Motherland will never use drugs under any circumstances.
We can also never think of producing great sportspersons like MC Mary Kom if we are into the drug habits.
As such, if we do not come up with certain strategies to do away with the menace of drugs, Manipur will ultimately cease to exist on day and that day would not be far, he cautioned.
