Imphal, August 26 2013:
Launching a scathing attack against the Congress Government of Manipur, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Th Chaoba Monday accused the former of attempting to cede Manipur's lands to Myanmar.
The BJP's tirade has come after the Indo-Myanmar Fencing Committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu left Imphal for Chandel district on Monday to oversee the ongoing Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing work.
The Congress had in the past gave away Manipur's Kabow Valley to Myanmar which shocked the people and now the party is trying to cede more lands of the state to the neighbouring country for the sake of the Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing, Chaoba accused while addressing a news conference at the party's office here.
He said the Indo-Myanmar Fencing Committee is useless and alleged that it has been formed by the state Cabinet as a means to present Manipur's border area lands to Myanmar.
Talking on the Food Security Bill, the BJP leader and former MP further said that this Bill will implement in the state only in papers even if it is passed by the Parliament.
Supporting his contention against the Bill, Chaoba pointed that still PDS items cannot be reached to all in the state so this Food Security will become a pointless programme.
UPA Government at the Centre is trying to gain political mileage out of this Food Security Bill in the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Chaoba accused.
Noting that the National Highways connecting the state are in awful condition, Chaoba said that rice cannot be shipped in to the state on time and if transported, there is no godown to store up the rice.
