MGNREGS training starts

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Department (MGNREGS Cell) has organised two days State level training cum workshop on revised operational guidelines on MGNREGS at Banquet Hall of Hotel Imphal here from today.
Speaking as chief guest at the occasion, RD&PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa said that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is taken up under the UPA Government's flagship programme.
People of the world is surprised with India's ability to provide 100 days of work in a year under the programme.
Development only in industries cannot be called overall development.
It should be brought in the villages too and the support of the people is necessary to achieve it.
The MGNREGS works have been implemented under Gram Sabha in the valley and Village Authorities in the hills, Ngajokpa added and urged the public to work properly and not to use machinery.
The Minister continued that social audit is required for proper and correct functioning of MGNREGS works and that less complaints from the people will arise if social audit is done.
Rs 8.71 crore has been included in the budget for the labourers by the Government of India for the current year, however, as of now it has not been sanctioned effectively.
There are total some more than 5 lakhs Job Card holders (MGNREGS workers) in the hills and valley of Manipur at present.
The training cum workshop was attended by Barun Mitra, Principal Secretary RD≺ SP Vaisht, Director Ministry of RD≺ N Geoffreey, Joint Secretary RD≺ and Neeta Arambam, Deputy Secretary RD&PR.
DCs, SDOs and Projects Officers of the Districts also attended the workshop.
