Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga today convened a meeting to streamline jail administration.
Speaking to The Sangai Express a reliable source said that the meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary and it was decided that a Committee be formed to inspect jails to find out if any juvenile is interned twice a year.
This is as per the advice and suggestion of the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights.
The decision to form the Committee was taken after minute deliberations, said the source.
A number of top ranking civil and police officers, including the Principal Secretary of Social Welfare Department, Barun Mitra, ADGP (Prisons) MK Das, Law Secretary, Additional Deputy Secretary (Home) and members from the Manipur Legal Services were present at the meeting.
