Several vehicles have been damaged as suspected blockade supporters resorted to pelting stones at vehicles defying the blockade call along NH-37 given by four Jiribam based students' bodies on the second day of the total blockade.
A Tata truck (WB25-B-8315), loaded with canned-fish, skidded off the road when suspected blockade supporters pelted stones at Jiribam Sorok Atingbi today around 5.30 pm.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Md Akbar (30) s/o Md Ali of West Bengal was administered first aid at Jiribam PHC.
The truck was among the vehicles escorted towards Imphal by a team of Jiribam police.
The total blockade was launched by Jiribam based students' bodies�AMSU, DESAM, MSF and KSA, on demands pertaining to shortage of manpower and infrastructure in educational institutions in Jiri area.
Meanwhile, showing solidarity to the agitation of the students' bodies, students of Jirighat Jr HS staged a sit-in protest today at the school premises.
The protesters urged the authority concerned to look into the demands of the student bodies and end the impasse immediately.
