Collective growth will come only after villages are developed : Minister Mirabai

Imphal, October 18 2014 : Noting that there will be collective growth in the State only after villages are developed, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has asserted that it is much necessary to empower Panchayat Raj System which was formed to facilitate development in the villages.

The Social Welfare Minister was attending the inaugural function of Bharat Nirmal Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra (Panchayat Ghar) for Changangei Gram Panchayat at Changangei Panchayat Tinpham Lampak, Imphal West today.

Speaking as chief guest, Min Mirabai stated that the role of elected Members of Panchayats in developing a village is of paramount importance and called upon the Members to strive for bringing development in their villages by establishing jovial relationship with the villagers.

Maintaining that large numbers of women are taking active participation in developmental works in villages following implementation of 33 percent reservation of women in Panchayats, Mirabai urged representatives of Panchayats to utilize funds sanctioned meant for development in villages properly and not to exercise the powers conferred upon them in wrong manner.

K Radhakumar, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West who was present at the occasion as president said that a Panchayat Ghar has to be set up for each of the 39 Gram Panchayats in Imphal West and added that except for only one Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Ghar has been already set up in remaining other Gram Panchayats.

Saying that additional funds will be sanctioned to Gram Panchayats if Panchayats perform their duties well, the DC exhorted representatives of Changangei Gram Panchayat to maintain their hard labor and fetch more funds and recognition.

He called upon them to render their services dutifully and wholeheartedly to bring more change and development in the village.

Laishram (o) Roma Leima, Pradhan of Changangei Gram Panchayat who attended the function as guest of honor pledged that she would utilize funds sanctioned under MGNREGS and several other schemes only for development in the village in close association with its villagers and appealed to the concerned DC to provide requisite materials for the Panchayat Ghar which inaugurated today at the earliest possible.

Today's inaugural function was also attended by Up-Pradhan and Ward Members of Changangei Gram Panchayat.
