Imphal, September 07, 2013:
With none of their members elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly, some political parties are as good as dead.
These parties have been virtually uprooted from the soil of Manipur for they could not keep in touch with the people, asserted Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a block level political conference held at Mayang Imphal Khuman Mini Stadium under the aegis of Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee today.
He stated that political parties formed only at the time of elections would vanish soon after elections are over.
It would be helpful if people can keep a tab on these political parties.
Gaikhangam who is also MPCC president went on to assert that some political parties are on the verge of extinction as they could not win a single seat in the Assembly election.
Inability to keep in touch with the people, arrogance and negligence of people are the primary reasons for such drastic downfall, he said.
Maintaining that Congress party is not a party of opportunist, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the Congress party was established 120 years back to fight against the British colonial rule and work for welfare of the people.
Gaikhangam also clarified that the Congress workers' conference held today was not an election meeting.
It was rather an awareness programme aimed at giving detail information to the people about several flagship programmes and National Food Security Ordinance taken up by UPA Government so that all the people can reap full benefits of these programmes.
The UPA has ensured right to work to a large section of the country's population through MGNREGS.
Now the Government is working to ensure right to food by introducing the National Food Security Ordinance.
People of the country have been already benefited after the Congress-led UPA Government enacted the Right to Information Act, Gaikhangam added.
Speaking at the conference, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar announced that construction work of a road which would connect Mayang Imphal to Bishnupur has been initiated.
Fund required for construction of bridge along the new road has also been set aside.
Necessary sanction has been obtained for construction of a road from Bishnupur to Tupul with assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
Moreover, Government of India has agreed in principle to upgrade Mayai Lambi to the status of a national highway.
Later, Ratankumar provided monetary assistance to seven accident victims and rewarded three polling stations of his Assembly constituency with Rs one lakh each as an acknowledgement of the maximum number of votes he secured in the three polling stations during the last Assembly election.
