Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) celebrates 29th Foundation Day

The Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) celebrated its 29th Foundation Day at YMA Hall, Hmuia Veng, Churachandpur today with grandeur.
Attending the MHJU anniversary celebration, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said India being one of the most advanced countries in the field of information technology, the world simply cannot ignore it in this regard.
He said that the information technology helps in creating awareness on RTI Act to the people on various matters besides the function, duty, provision and policies of the Government.
Stressing on the role of media in the society, the Deputy CM said media is an important pillar in democratic set-up.
Health & Family Welfare minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo and MTDC Chairman T Manga Vaphei shared the dais.
Dr Chaltonlien said that the media serve as the eyes and ears of the public and appealed to journalists to maintain balance while reporting news.
Ramkung Panmei from Tamenglong presided over the celebration while Peter Adani from Senapati delivered vote of thanks.
Sothing Shmiray from Ukhrul handed over the mementos to the attending VIPs.
A Press Club for the union at Imphal, appointment of translators at DIPR and construction of Press Club building at Lamka have been petitioned before the attending guests by the union.
Significantly, the 29th anniversary of MHJU marked the first year of all hill based journalists coming under one roof, though it lacked membership from Chandel as it has no established daily there.
