CRC for PWDs on the card

A Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for persons with disabilities (PWDs) is coming up at Takyelpat under the administrative control of Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) .
Speaking to media persons at Classic Hotel, North AOC today, SVNIRTAR Director Dr SP Das said the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has given the go ahead to establish the CRC (Composite Regional Centre) for PWDs.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh had proposed Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2018 to set up the CRC (Composite Regional Centre) for PWDs, he added.
Dr Das informed that the country has about 9 National institutes including the SVNIRTAR that work for welfare of the PWDs.
Opening such institutions in every State is the objective of the Central Government.
India has 21 CRCs and three are in the North-East at Assam, Tripura and Sikkim.
Manipur will soon become the 23rd State to have the CRC and 4th in the North-East region, he said.
On the functioning of the CRC, he said it is a boon for the persons with disabilities.
It will serve as a resource centre for rehabilitation and special education of persons with disabilities.
Besides providing therapeutic and rehabilitation services, the centre offers diploma and degree courses.
The State's Social Welfare Department has provided 3 acres of land and a temporary building at Takyelpat to set up the CRC Imphal.
As per Central Government's rules, the CRC requires an area of 15 acres.
The State will be urged to gradually expand the campus area, he added.
Responding to a question, Dr Das said the CRC Imphal will be functional within 4-6 months.
In the meantime, the CRC Imphal will need equipment and hire manpower for it to become operational.
He also thanked Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Social Welfare Minister, its Director and officials of the Government for bringing the CRC to Manipur.
CRC Guwahati Director Dr Lanu W Aimol was also present in the press meet.
