Maichou Ningsing thouram observed

Obeisance to the departed Manipuri scholars by observing two minutes silence and presentation of awards marked the 12th Maichou (scholar) Ningsing thouram organised by Culture Preservation Centre, Imphal at GM Hall today.
The event, which commenced with the traditional Pena recitation saw Manipur State Social Welfare Board Chairperson RK Noyonsana Devi as the chief guest honour six elderly citizens namely V Luinamla (108), S Ningkhonang (101) and V Lungrei (94), all from Ukhrul, Kangabam Tomba Meitei (87) of Keishampat Kangabam Leikai, Ningombam Mangi (85) of Bashikhong Leirak Achouba and M Agani (106) of Luwangsangbam by presenting walking sticks, shawls and cash.
L Mohori Meitei and Y Ibeyaima, who were chosen respectively for the best voluntary and best mother award were also honoured with the presentation of certificate, memento and cash prizes on the occasion, during which several other elderly citizens were also honoured.
Interspersed with staging of traditional and cultural items of different communities, a book entitled 'Nupigee Punsi' of the Young Women Help Organisation was also released while a book entitled 'Lonthoktabagee Wakak' written by Dr Lanchenba Meetei was read out at the occasion by the author.
In his brief address, RK Noyonsana called upon the younger generation to strive for following on the foot-step and emulating achievement of the Manipuri elders and fore-fathers, particularly in the preservation and promotion of Manipur's art, cultural and traditions.
