Imphal, January 31, 2012:
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate in 48-Mao (ST) A/C Woba Joram has contended that the conduct of election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, 2012 in general and 48-Mao A/C in particular was not at all in a manner which could be termed as free and fair as well as in consonance with the guidelines of Election Commission of India.
Woba pointed out that most of the genuine electorates in Mao area villages namely Pudunamai, Robunamai, Kalinamai, Songsong, Shajouba and Chowainu, etc were barred from casting their votes as per their wishes and desires as armed NPF volunteers indulged in proxy voting.
The innocent villagers/electorates were not even allowed to enter their respective polling booths.
He further informed that most of the NPF volunteers from the state of Nagaland came to Mao area in 10 buses and indulged in proxy voting.
But the election officials could do nothing.
Condemning the action of the NFP volunteers, AITC Senapati unit has urged the Election Commission for a proper investigation into the incident.
