Taking a dig against the failure of the UPA Government to take up concrete measures to check price rise, the opposition BJP is all set to launch a country-wide signature campaign which would be forwarded to the President.
As a part of the country-wide campaign which would be carried out from March 1 to March 20, the BJP State unit is targeting to collect at least 30,000 signatures for submission to the President.
Incidentally, the BJP State unit has already staged protest demonstrations against price rice in different parts of the State.
A team of the BJP led by president Sh Shantikumar arrived at Imphal from Indore yesterday.
The State BJP unit delegates went to Indore and attended meeting of the BJP national council held there from February 17 and 19. Significantly, the BJP parliamentary board formally announced Nitin Gadkadi as its new president during the meeting.The meeting deliberated on the debacle suffered by BJP during the last parliamentary elections.
The meeting also studied several measures to strengthen the party, said the BJP unit leaders who attended the meeting.
Problems and issues besetting the North East region including Manipur also figured in the three-day meeting.
The BJP meeting discussed the administrative failures of the SPF Government in Manipur together with other pressing issues of the State.
The BJP is planning to gherao Parliament after taking out a massive rally against price rise on April 21.A 50-member strong delegate of the BJP state unit would participate in the demonstration.
They would also discuss with central leaders of BJP about the various issues of Manipur.
