Diamond Jubliee celebrations and general conference

Imphal/Dimapur, February 27, 2010:
The diamond Jubilee celebration of the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur cum the 20th general conference of the All Zeliangrong Students' Union, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland will be held for four days consecutively from March 3 to 6 at Maha Kabui Namching village on National Highway 53 in Senapati District.
The inaugural function of the celebration cum general conference with the theme "Journey of Hope and Change" will be held at 10.30 am of March 3. Chief Minister O Ibobi, Minister of YAS and IFCD, N Biren and MPCC president and MLA Gaikhangam will be the chief guests while Minister of Planning, Govt of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, Minister of Tribal Development DD Thaisii, Saitu A/C MLA Haokholet Kipgen and Tamenglong DC Sumant Singh will be the guests of honour at the inaugural function.
Vice Chairman of Hill Areas Committee, MLA Khangthuanang Panmei, Tamei A/C MLA Awangbou Newmai and Director of Commerce and Industries, also Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Thaithuilung Pamei, IAS will be the presidents.
On the second day, March 4, Chief Minister O Ibobi will again be the chief guest, Minister of Planning Coordination, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Nagaland, TR Zeliang, Minister of Tribal Development DD Thaisii and Saitu A/C MLA Haokholet Kipgen will be the guests of honour and vice chairman of Hill Areas Committee Khangthuanang Panmei will be the president.
On the third day at the celebrations, YAS and IFCD Minister N Biren will be the chief guest, Chief Secretary DS Poonia will be the guest of honour and Tamei MLA Awangbou Newmai will be the president.
Election of the AZSU will be held at 2 pm of March 5, the third day.
MPCC president and MLA Gaikhangam will grace the valedictory function as the chief guest, DC Tamenglong Sumant Singh will be the guest of honour and Director, Commerce and Industries and Registrar, Cooperative Societies, T Panmei will preside.
Cultural programmes, folk dance and music, lectures, panel discussions, showcase of Zeliangrong traditional attire along with Diamond Queen contest, etc.
will be part of the attractions of the celebration and conference.
Various students organisations namely, Naga Students Federation (NSF), Nagaland, Khasi Students Union (KSU), Meghalaya, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Karbi Students' Union (KSU), Assam, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Senapati District Students' Union (SDSA), Churachandpur District Students' Union (CDSU), Dimasa Students' Union (DSU), Assam, etc.
will also take part in the diamond jubilee celebration cum general conference to show solidarity with the AZSU.
Meanwhile, the Central Organising Committee of the diamond jubilee celebration cum general conference has extended its deepest sense of gratitude to Minister of Works, K Ranjit engineers of PWD, Sadar Hills Sub Division, Senapati district and his dedicated team for the yeoman service rendered to Zeliangrong people particularly to the Central Organising Committee by repairing the dusty road leading to Maha Kabui Namching village.
The COC appealed to all the organisations/associations of Manipur not to call bandh and general strike during the mega event.
