Imphal, February 27, 2010:
The sahitya Akademi, New Delhi has selected Shijagurumayum Brajeshore Sharma of Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal, Imphal East district for the Sahitya Adademi Translation Prize 2009 for translating Kaali Andhi, written in Hindi by Kamleshwar, into Manipuri.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and an inscribed copper plaque.
Sh Brajeshor Sharma has already translated Rajkumar Shitaljit's novel "Ema" into Hindi as "Ma" (2000), Hindi Aur Manipuriki Saman Shabdabli, Vyatireki Adhyan (Hindida Lol Neinaba, 2000) which had been published.
The translator is a teacher of Kha Imphal Primary School, and presently engaged at the Directorate of Education.
He is also general secretary of Writers' Forum, Imphal at present.
The Forum has expressed happiness over the selection of the translator for the prestigious award, Joint Secy of the Forum, Y Randhirkumar stated in a press release.
