Maintaining that ensuring a tension free environment in the family would help not only in reducing crime in society but also in combating negative influence on education, a day-long seminar held here at State Guest House has mooted amendment of transfer policy and recruitment rule of the teachers to suit with the changing time.
Organised under the aegis of All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO), the seminar that aimed to find out ways and means of overcoming challenges on education in Manipur also recommended appointment of non-gazetted teachers through open competition and setting up of a sub-ordinate education service selection board by the Government to ensure quality education in the State.
Inaugurating the seminar as chief guest, titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba categorically observed that challenges on education in Manipur can be overcome if the Government has the will.
In pursuing their studies, students are being subjected to various challenges in Manipur right from unconducive atmosphere in the family to lack of necessary infrastructures in schools and colleges and to UG threat over monetary demands and bombs at educational institutions, Leishemba pointed out.
AMSGO president Rev Y Renghang Chothe, Ex-Minister RV Mingthing and retired ZEO N Chaoba Singh attended the seminar as presidium members.
Delivering the key note address, general secretary of AMSGO Oinam Yaima noted that education is an indispensable part of the society and its development.
Yet education has been subjected to various challenges the impact of which are directly felt by the students who are considered to be the future pillars of the society.
Apart from lack of necessary infrastructures at schools and colleges, commercialisation of education by the private institutions, neglect and abstention of the teachers, rising corruption level, prevailing conflict situation and imposition of frequent bandhs and blockades over political or social issues have given serious impact in the process of imparting education in Manipur.
So it is find out ways and means of overcoming these challenges that the seminar is being felicitated, Yaima explained.
In his address, N Chaoba pointed out that the society would be the ultimate sufferer if there is no conducive atmosphere for the students to learn their lesson without any fear and intimidation.
So every section of the society should take the issues related to education of the students, who are the future pillars of the society, very seriously.
In the same vein, RV Minthing observed that loss of the students is the loss of the Nation.
Apart from the important role of the teachers, the Government and the parents should also not forget their responsibility toward the education of the children, he added.
AMSGO advisor H Kulla said that the cry of the people not against any UG groups but against their undue threat and intimidation in educational institution.
Covering up such threats and intimidation by the school and college authorities has resulted in deprivation of the right to education of the students.
In the technical session, principal of Kanan Devi College of Education Prof Tombi moderated the seminar.
Child psychologist M Nabakumar Meetei and Prof N Joykumar Singh of History Department, Manipur University were among the resource persons who presented papers at the occasion.
Nabakumar spoke on the role of parents and Prof Joykumar on the role of the Government in promotion of education.
