During the Yaoshang festival, Imphal west district is going to give emphasis in checking violation of the Motor Vehicles Acts enforcing in the state to control road mishaps during the five day long festival.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal west district, L Kailun in a statement said that the district police will organised a special drive to strictly implement certain safety norms and pull-up any erring individuals.
All police personnel under his control have been instructed to give emphasis to check the irregularities with penalties under the Motor Vehicles Acts 1988, the statement said.
A penalty of imprisonment for three months or a fine of Rs 500 or both will be imposed to those driving motor vehicles without driving license, the same penalty will imposed to the driving of motor vehicle by the minors.
Imprisonment for three months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both will be imposed to owner of vehicles allowing minor or a person without driving license.
For driving without registration certificate of the vehicle will imposed Rs 2000 with may be extended upto Rs 5000 under section 192 MV Act.
Driving vehicle without insurance certificate will impose a penalty of Rs 1000 or three month imprisonment.
Triple riding on a two wheeler vehicle and vehicle plying without displaying registration no.will imposed a fine of Rs 300 under different section of the Act while driving by drunken person or by a person under the influence of liquor/drug will get imprisonment for six months or a fine of Rs 2000 or both, driving with excessive speed will be imposed a fine of Rs 400 for the first offence and a fine of Rs 1000 for the second time offense.
Overloading of Car/M-Gypsy/Maruti Van/buses which is violation of section 133 (B) of MV Act will be fined Rs 300, driving a motor vehicle at a speed which is dangerous to the public will be imposed of a fine of Rs 1000 or imprisonment for six months or both.
Driving motor vehicle using mobile phone will meet imprisonment term of six month or with fine Rs 400.For a previous similar offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two year or with fine of Rs 600, Rs 800 and Rs 1000 respectively, the statement warned.
The state further appealed general public to co-operate and help the police in curbing road mishap and to save precious lives and ensure peaceful celebration of the Holi Festival which is to begin from February 28 till March 4.
