Imphal, April 26 2012:
Against the backdrop of crimes against women in the State, the Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long has expressed shock over the alleged indifferent attitude of the Government in checking crimes against women.
In a statement, Joint Secretary of Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long, Themmila Shanglai wondered over the lack of interest of the Government in reducing the heinous and brutal crimes against women which create fear and insecurity and emboldening the perpetrators to go scot-free.
Citing recent reported cases like the gangrape of a housewife on March 22, rape of a girl in Thoubal on April 10, killing of Keisam Premila on March 25, killing of Tama by her husband on Maril 16, killing of Pebam Renubala on April 21, the ITSL in the statement also feared that there would be many other cases which went unreported.
Condemning the crimes against women, the ITSL urged the Government to look into the matter and not to leave the cases to women alone.
It further appealed the general public to extend cooperation in solving the increasing crimes in the State.
