Imphal, July 21 2011:
Former PULF leader MI Khan who has now joined electoral politics was attacked by some unidentified persons last night by firing several rounds of bullets at his Keirao Makting Makha Leikai residence.
According to information culled from the spot, several rounds of bullets were fired at MI Khan's house at about 12.45 am of July 21. Gun shots were also heard in the southern and northern neighbourhood of the house.
Except for some damages caused to MI Khan's house, the firing attack, however, did not cause any human casualty.
In protest against the firing attack, a sit-in-protest was staged today at MI Khan's residential gate under the aegis of the Election Committee for MI Khan.
Speaking at the protest site, MI Khan said that the attack was carried out with a narrow political outlook with a motive to enrage him and disturb his peace of mind so that he retaliates with criminal activities.
This was the third time MI Khan was attacked.
A hand grenade was gifted to MI Khan in April this year.
There was also an instance when an extortion note of Rs 50 lakhs was delivered to the former rebel.
Terming the attack as dastardly and unfortunate, MI Khan pledged that he would never be cowed down by such activities.
He also lamented the response of Irilbung police.
"Despite the standing order from the State IGP to patrol the area around my house, Irilbung police did not come even as they were informed about the firing attack.
They came only this morning", MI Khan said.
General secretary of the Election Committee for MI Khan Th Nabakumar appealed to those who carried out last night's attack to identify themselves and explain their action.
