Imphal, May 08 2016:
The JAC constituted against the death of B Pitaranjan Sharma alias Korabin today staged a sit-in-protest at Old Checkon.
JAC leader Jeena Potshangbam said that a team comprising of JAC members and Checkon locals would go to Ukhrul to find out the reasons why the father-daughter duo, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have been released.
She said that the duo were arrested by Kasom Khullen police on April 27 and released on bail by the Court on May 4 .
Jeena said that they would not claim Pitaranjan's body but continue their stir until the culprits are punished befittingly.
She said that a man who identified himself as 'Peter', the village chief of Kangkum village made a phone call to one of the youths who had been to the village to bring back Pitaranjan's body some time back.
The man asked the youth not to stage any agitation and demand arrest of the killers, the JAC leader alleged.
As the JAC is unable to contact the Investigating Officer of the case, the JAC is not satisfied with the investigation process, Jeena said.
