All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has warned of launching agitations if the backlog scholarship of Minority and OBC students are not released by May 20 .
AMSU general secretary Manjit Sarangthem, in a press meet held at AMSU office today said the MOBC Department has not released the entitled scholarship for OBC and Minority students from 2013.Demanding release of the scholarship, the office of the MOBC Director was shut down in protest by students on April 12 following which the scholarship amount were transferred to bank accounts of few beneficiary students.
Demanding timely release of scholarship amount, Manjit said the union had submitted a memorandum to the MOBC Secretary on April 11 this year appealing him to take up strict action against the Nodal Officer and others handling scholarship scheme for OBC and minority students.
At present there are about 15000 Minority and OBC students in the State.
Each student, according to his/her class is entitled to a sum of Rs 20000, 17000 and 10230 as scholarship.
These scholarships are transferred to the bank account of beneficiary students each year between November 10 to 20.MOBC Department has not followed this system in years, Manjit lamented.
The union will launch different agitation in case the department concerned fail to release the scholarships for Minority and OBC students before May 20, he stated.
