Muirei's day under the sun

In a significant development, Muirei village under Ukhrul district, 24 kilometres away from Imphal is set to have a Montfort School in the near future, which in the process would make Manipur the second State in the North East region to have such a school.
A stone erection and installation function of St Anthony's parish was held amidst much fan fare at Murei (Joyland) with people from all over Ukhrul district, Imphal and Bangalore in attendance at the panoramic village.
Principal Secretary (Public Works Department & Transport) GoM, Ram Muivah, IAS, while talking with some Journalists at the side line of the function said that the erection and installation programme of St Anthony's Parish at the scenic Muirei village was a long cherished dreams and aspiration of the people of this area comprising around 11 villages.
The Bangalore based Montfort society, a religious institution presently has one Monfort school in the North East, in Guwahati.
"We may have a Monfort school at our village in the future", the Principal Secretary said.
The Monftortian organisation caters to the various educational needs of children and the youth.
Having a population of more than 400, the tiny village near Yaingangpokpi woke up on Sunday morning to witness the historic and symbolic erection and installation of the St Anthony's Parish, a religious centre for Christian Catholics on the village soil.
The degree and the emblematic handing over of the tabernacle key to Father Moses Parish priest and his assistant completed the process.
Muirei villagers expressed happiness over the installation of the Parish as they were under Kasom Khullen Parish which is more than 100 km away from their village.
"It's our prolonged and cherished dream," a senior village elder said.
"We're grateful to the religious representatives for making it happen" .
With the day's formal installation, more than eight villages of Southern Ukhrul area would be under the Parish at Muirei village.
