The body of Kshetrimayum Gobin (24) s/o Kameshore of Kongpal Sabal Leikai was fished out from Kongba river at Kongpal Kshetri Leikai this morning.
The hands of Gobin were found tied in front and bruises were observed on the head, face and toes.
According to Gobin's father Kameshore, one Kshetrimayum Rameshore of Kongpal Sabal Leikai came to their house at about 2 am today and informed the family that Gobin had jumped into the river following a brawl and that he could not be located.
Immediately, family members together with neighbours searched for Gobin in the area where he reportedly jumped into river but to no avail.
Divers were called to search for Gobin this morning and his body was found in the nearby area.
A team of Porompat Police have started investigating the death of Gobin and they have scanned the area where the brawl reportedly took place.
In the meantime, family members and relatives of Gobin attacked the house of Rameshore and his younger brother Jiteshore alias Oupa on the charge that the brothers murdered Gobin.
Alleging that the brothers threw Gobin into the river after thrashing him, they (Gobin's relatives) torched Rameshore's Maruti car and vandalised the house.
This resulted in a tense situation between the two families.
The situation was put under control following deployment of additional police personnel in the area.
